Chapter 1: Sit Down, Snoopy!

"AH!"

Harper flew into a boulder, cracking it. The full moon's light made her fair skin almost glow. Alice, her were-cat teammate and good friend, howled and tackled the werewolf from behind. The gray werewolf snarled and raked her back. It sank its fangs in the Italian's back and sent her flying. She rolled on the dirt, leaving a trail of blood. She moaned and tried to rise but stopped when the moonlight was blocked out.

She gaped as the werewolf howled and crouched down, as if bowing. But it wasn't bowing; it was preparing to strike.
It flew through the air, its bloodstained claws aimed at her throat.

Her mate, L Lawliet darted in front of her and created a force field around them both. The werewolf howled and flew five feet away.
Alice panted, shivering as her back rapidly healed, "Thanks, L." L turned at her with warm black eyes, "You are more than welcome, dear."
He held his hand out to help her up. She gladly took it and forced herself up. She couldn't help smile as L laced their fingers together.

Another howl killed their romantic moment. They turned to the werewolf, bleeding but not nearly enough to be fatal.
"EAT LEAD, B*TCH!"
Jo-Jo and Acanthus, the only two vampires at Wammy's House, swooped in. Acanthus stopped for a moment and loaded a gun. Jo-Jo landed on the werewolf's hairy shoulders and stabbed it in the forehead. It shrieked and raised its claw at her.
"Jo!" Acanthus glided towards her and pulled her out of the claw's path.

They landed on the ground, panting and wide-eyed. Jo-Jo sighed and grinned at Acanthus, "Thanks, A.P."
Acanthus felt his cheeks heat up as he nodded, "No problem." Another roar brought him away from Jo-Jo's crimson eyes. He growled and shot the werewolf in the chest.

It stumbled backwards, as though pushed. But it roared again, foam streaming from its mouth. Acanthus blinked as Jo-Jo sighed and pushed him off her, "Werewolves have bullet-proof coats, man."
"Oh, right." Acanthus' alabaster face turned lobster red.

"HEY!"

Everyone, including the werewolf, turned to see Sammy standing under the moonlight. Her long, bushy, dark brown tail flickered angrily, and her mud-brown eyes blazed with rage. Her claws were sharp and yellow, ready to kill.
"I don't care if you're one of my kind!" She shouted, "NOBODY messes with my friends!"

With a snarl, she leaped and tackled the werewolf. The werewolf fell on its back, its claws flying wildly about. Sammy jumped on its chest and punched it in the face, scratching it with her claws. It howled and bit her arm, spraying blood.

"AGH!" Sammy screamed in pain. The werewolf headbutted her and sent her cartwheeling backwards.
"Sammy!" Jo-Jo and Alice started to bolt in their sisters' direction, but L's force field stopped them.
When they glared at the telepath, he looked at them with melancholy, onyx eyes and said, "I am afraid that this is Sammy's battle alone. She must do this on her own."

~*~

Sammy's thoughts flew through her mind as she ran through the forest, branches scratching her exposed arms. Another month had passed since the team's last case, and in the cool English weather, her bloody wet arm burned.
How had this werewolf gotten in from Halloweentown? And why had it come alone? Werewolves AlWAYS stuck to their pack.

It didn't make any sense.

The werewolf's furious cry snapped Sammy into focus. It was nearby, she could tell that much. Probably close enough to catch her scent. Sammy cursed. Why had she chosen to run HERE of all places?
It was a clearing, the tall evergreens blocking out every speck of light. It was fine for a full werewolf; it could see just as well. But for a werewolf in human form, it proved slightly more difficult.

Another howl. A lot closer this time.

Sammy panicked and looked around desperately. There was a small cave just ahead of her.

She smiled grimly.

~*~

The werewolf roared and searched restlessly for its prey. She might've been its own kind, but she'd chosen to side with the enemy. For that alone, she would die. The werewolf licked its shiny black lips at the thought of ripping her apart.

"Hey, ugly!"

It jerked its head to see Sammy crouched outside the entrance to a small cave, waving cheerily.
"Come on! Let's have some fun!" With a cackle, Sammy turned and ran inside the cave on all fours.
The werewolf howled and zoomed in.

Even with its sharp wolf eyes, the werewolf couldn't see its prey. But her smell...it was still in the air. Shaking off its confusion, the werewolf followed her scent.

A loud grunt could be heard.
It turned and came face-to-face with Sammy, who was kicking at a stone pillar. For a moment, she looked frightened. Then, she smiled and kicked the pillar with all her might. Everything around them shook wildly like an earthquake. When the werewolf looked up, the ceiling cracked.

"So long, furball!"

The werewolf's whimpers were drowned out in the loud crumbling of the caved-in roof.
